Department of English

The PG Department of English has been an integral part of the college since it was established in 1964. With the introduction of the B.A. English course in 1967, it became a full-fledged department, and the addition of the M.A. English Course in 1998–99 gave it the status of a Principal Department. The Department is blessed with a vibrant group of enterprising teachers and dedicated students. There is a well-equipped language lab that ameliorates the communicative skills of our students.

VISION

The vision of the Department of English is to empower our young minds to compete in a competitive world through English Language Learning. The Department strengthens the education of students through constantly updated language and literature courses. The PG Department of English provides appropriate pedagogy that improves the language skills of students and helps them acquire communicative competence. The overall Vision of the Department is to develop the Department as a centre for academic excellence through teaching, learning, and research.

MISSION

1. To help students cherish English Literature through e-teaching, offline teaching, webinars, and debates on topics covered in the syllabus.
2.    To provide learning and research opportunities in the following Thrust Areas: Interdisciplinary Studies, New literatures in English, Media Studies, Women’s Writing, Modern and Postmodern Literatures, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Translation Studies, Film Studies etc
3. To enhance their ability to improve social responsibility and professional commitment
4. To emerge as a centre of excellence in Language and literature studies.
5. To provide students with the skills to master entrance exams for further studies in India and abroad.
6. To train students at all levels with a foundation for appropriate career goals in the competitive job market.

M.A ENGLISH

Any candidate who has passed B.A degree of any University or Institutes in any states recognised by UGC or AICTE with minimum of 45% marks or equivalent grade is eligible for admission. OBC and SC/ST students are eligible for mark/grade relaxation as per the University rules.

B.A ENGLISH

Candidates who have passed (Eligible for Higher Studies) the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto with at least one commerce subject are eligible for admissions to the B.Com degree course. Candidates who have not studied commerce subject for Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination not less than 45% marks are also eligible. A concession of 5% will be given to OBC/OEC candidates. The SC/ST candidates need get only a pass. (U.O. No.GAI/A2/1658/2007 dated 28.02.2008).
