Department of Botany

The Department of Botany was formally established in 1980.The department currently offers under graduate course in botany and has sanctioned faculty strength of four members, all of whom are actively involved in teaching, research and extension activities. The department also has one technical staff. ICT enabled class room and two well equipped laboratories are functioning in the department. Since its inception, students of this department have excelled in various walks of life.

Department secured university first rank in 1994 and 2002, a third rank in academic year 2011, fourth rank during 2012 and fifth rank in the academic year 2017.The department offers ‘mushroom cultivation and marketing ’as the open course for the fifth semester students. Second year students are members of various clubs and they actively take part in extension activities. The Department organizes seminars and invited lectures in connection with Environment Day, Science Day, ozone Day etc.

To provide a sustainable and accessible environment for the students to achieve quality education and promoting holistic growth of the learner with thrust on real -time needs.

Candidates who have passed (Eligible for Higher Studies) the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto with at least one commerce subject are eligible for admissions to the B.Com degree course. Candidates who have not studied commerce subject for Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination not less than 45% marks are also eligible. A concession of 5% will be given to OBC/OEC candidates. The SC/ST candidates need get only a pass. (U.O. No.GAI/A2/1658/2007 dated 28.02.2008).
