Department of History

The Department of History is one of the oldest and vibrant departments of VTM NSS
College. The Degree classes were started in 1967. The Post Graduate Course in History
commenced from 1999 onwards. Eminent teachers have served the department right from its
inception. The alumni of the department have adorned numerous high positions in the
Government and in the University. The Department Library has a good collection of books.
There are seven faculty members in the department of whom two are research supervisors. All
of them have Ph D Degree. The department conducts two add – on courses every year.
Students of the department participate in sports and cultural activities.

To cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation of the diverse historical narratives
that shape our world, fostering critical thinking, empathy and informed citizenship in our
students. To mould a powerful young generation through education by connecting the present
with the past.

MISSION

The History Department is dedicated to advancing the study and teaching of history
through innovative pedagogy. We aim to develop student’s analytical skills, historical
knowledge and research abilities, preparing them to engage thoughtfully with the past and
contribute meaningfully to contemporary society. We are committed to promoting inclusively
interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement in all our endeavors.

M.A HISTORY

Any candidate who has passed B.A degree of any University or Institutes in any states recognised by UGC or AICTE with minimum of 45% marks or equivalent grade is eligible for admission. OBC and SC/ST students are eligible for mark/grade relaxation as per the University rules.

B.A HISTORY

Candidates who have passed (Eligible for Higher Studies) the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto with at least one commerce subject are eligible for admissions to the B.Com degree course. Candidates who have not studied commerce subject for Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination not less than 45% marks are also eligible. A concession of 5% will be given to OBC/OEC candidates. The SC/ST candidates need get only a pass. (U.O. No.GAI/A2/1658/2007 dated 28.02.2008).
